DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED SCIENCE & HUMANITIES

About the Department

The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities has played a vital role since the inception of the institute by providing a strong foundation in basic sciences, humanities, and communication skills as an integral part of engineering education. The department is committed to imparting quality education and promoting the practical application of scientific and humanistic knowledge to develop competent, ethical, and innovative engineers. Offering a comprehensive curriculum in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, and Environmental Science, the department places significant emphasis on conceptual understanding, analytical thinking, and interdisciplinary learning to meet the evolving requirements of modern technical education. This interdisciplinary approach is further strengthened by the inclusion of faculty expertise in Management and Electronics, ensuring students receive a well-rounded perspective that bridges the gap between core science, organizational leadership, and technical application.

Under the leadership of Dr. Shailendra Badal, an experienced academician and researcher with expertise in Organic Chemistry and Environmental Science, the department continuously strives for academic excellence and holistic student development. The department’s mission is driven by a robust team of seven regular faculty members, whose permanent presence ensures long-term academic stability, consistent mentorship, and a deep-rooted commitment to research and teaching. Through outcome-based education, rigorous laboratory practices, and continuous academic activities, these dedicated professionals nurture students with a strong technical aptitude and professional ethics. By fostering an environment of inquiry and lifelong learning, the department prepares students to excel in their respective engineering disciplines and contribute meaningfully to the global professional landscape.

Vision

The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities is committed to dynamically integrate the fundamental concepts of Applied Sciences and Humanities with recent advancements having direct or indirect impact engineering to groom the student to become professionals and value -based technocrats.

Mission

* Prepare students for core engineering branches by laying a strong foundation of basic principles of Applied Science & Humanities.

* Provide training of communication skills to empower students to meet with the cutting-edge technologies.

* Committed to providing a supportive and ICT blend teaching and learning environment for the holistic development of students.

Laboratory

Chemistry Lab

The Chemistry Laboratory of the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities is well-equipped to provide practical knowledge and experimental skills to undergraduate engineering students. The laboratory is designed to strengthen the fundamental concepts of Engineering Chemistry through hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and analytical techniques.

The laboratory facilities support experiments related to volumetric analysis, water quality analysis, pH measurement, conductometry, potentiometry, corrosion studies, polymer testing, and instrumental methods of analysis. Special emphasis is given to safety practices, precision in experimentation, and the practical applications of chemistry in engineering and environmental sciences.

Under the guidance of experienced faculty members, students are encouraged to develop scientific temperament, analytical thinking, and research-oriented approaches through laboratory learning. The Chemistry Laboratory plays a significant role in bridging theoretical concepts with real-world engineering and environmental applications.

Experiments

Physics Lab

The Physics Laboratory at Rajkiya Engineering College, Banda provides B.Tech 1st year students with hands-on exposure to fundamental and applied physics through core experiments. Students perform Newton’s Ring and diffraction grating experiments to determine wavelength of sodium and mercury light, and use He-Ne laser for single slit diffraction and polarization studies. The lab covers modern physics through energy band gap and Hall Effect measurements of semiconductors, while optical activity is studied using a polarimeter. Along with physical setups, we also conduct Virtual Lab experiments in the same areas to enhance visualization and self-learning. Additional experiments on Stefan’s law, Carey Foster’s Bridge, and B-H curve analysis develop analytical and practical skills.

Experiments

Material Science Lab

The Material Science Laboratory is an advanced research facility dedicated to material synthesis, processing, and characterization. Equipped with modern instruments such as a Planetary Ball Mill, Tubular Furnace, Muffle Furnace, and Refrigerated Centrifuge, the lab supports innovative experimental research and practical learning. It provides students and researchers with hands-on experience in nanomaterials, energy storage materials, and other emerging areas of materials science.

Energy Convrion and Storage Lab

The Energy Conversion & Storage Laboratory at Rajkiya Engineering College Banda is dedicated to advanced research in battery and supercapacitor technologies, focusing on next-generation energy storage systems. Equipped with modern facilities for material synthesis, electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and electrochemical characterization, the laboratory offers an excellent platform for innovative research, experimentation, and practical learning. The lab is actively involved in SERB- and CSTUP-funded research projects aimed at developing high-performance electrode and electrolyte materials for advanced battery and supercapacitor applications. Through successful research initiatives and continuous innovation, the laboratory strives to develop efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable energy storage solutions for future technological and industrial needs.

Language Lab

Language Lab helps in sensitizing the learners to the nuances of English speech sounds, word accent, intonation and rhythm through i-tell (IT Enabled Language Lab).
Highlights of the Lab:

Chemical Analytical Laboratory

The Chemical Analytical Laboratory is equipped with modern analytical instruments such as UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Water Analyser, and Rotary Vacuum Evaporator (Rotavapour) to support teaching, research, and advanced experimental work in chemistry and environmental science.
The UV-Visible Spectrophotometer is used for quantitative and qualitative analysis of chemical compounds, dye analysis, and environmental sample testing. The Water Analysis facilities enable the assessment of various physicochemical parameters of water, supporting research related to water quality and environmental monitoring. The Rotary Vacuum Evaporator (Rotavapour) is utilized for solvent recovery, concentration, purification, and preparation of chemical samples under controlled conditions.

The laboratory provides students and researchers with hands-on experience in modern analytical techniques and instrumentation, helping them develops practical skills, analytical abilities, and research competence.
